The Artful Wild is a monthly Patreon subscription I co-founded with fellow artist Kelly Leahy Radding. Each month we share instruction, process, and inspiration rooted in drawing and painting the natural world — plants and fungi from my side, birds and animals from Kelly's.

The content is designed for artists at every level who want steady, observation-based practice and a closer look at how two working artists think, make decisions, and develop their work.

• The Observant Eye — $7/month 
  A gentle entry point for artists and nature lovers. Each month includes a welcome to the theme, art prompts and inspiration, behind-the-scenes glimpses of works in progress, quick sketch exercises from Kelly and Margaret, and a growing reference and technique library. All members are invited to join The Wild Circle, our community on Discord, upon subscribing.
   

• The Artist's Fieldbook — $20/month 
  Everything in The Observant Eye, plus From Field to Frame (curated photo references hand-picked by Kelly and Margaret each month), comprehensive step-by-step tutorials, detailed technique and materials videos, The Experimental Studio (our recorded conversations about art, nature, and the creative life), and Nature’s Lineage: Studying the Masters. Relevant downloads are included directly in tutorial and technique posts.
   

• The Wild Atelier — $40/month
  Everything in The Artist’s Fieldbook, plus a monthly Studio Letter — a personal written reflection from Kelly or Margaret on what the season is asking of us creatively, occasionally accompanied by a short video from the studio — quarterly live Studio Gatherings where both Kelly and Margaret are present for an hour of real making and conversation, monthly one-on-one mentoring sessions (cumulative and combinable for a longer session when needed), and first notice of workshops and special offerings.

 

WHAT YOU'LL FIND IN THE LIBRARY

The TAW archive includes step-by-step tutorials, technique and materials explorations, quick sketch exercises, nature-based prompts, curated photo references, master studies, behind-the-scenes process content, and more. Not every category posts every month — Kelly and I trade off, keeping the content varied and in step with our own studio practice.
